Swan Song

A swan might sing a hundred times
of its death before it dies.

Death is an egg the swan lays
and lays again,
as many times as the body
moves it to.

Girls wash rashes from their throats
in the lake because the water
coats the swan's throat
with smooth amber.

The swan gets lipstick, crinoline,
gray wand.

A swan might sing about death
a hundred times
before actually dying.

Death is an egg
the swan lays and lays
as much
as the body
moves.

The swan is set apart, sings its difference
so we know itís not like
other birds even in the dark.

What does the song say, the song
is different for every swan,
the please don't, the maybe you,
the yes but, the forgive you.

The swan distinguishes itself from other birds
even in the dark.
